A Week to Pause and Check In
Wellness Week isn’t something new here at Kovai.co. It finds its place on the calendar every year. It is a familiar pause in the middle of regular workdays. Over five days, different sessions and check-ups were organised, each focusing on a part of physical or mental well-being.
Most of us visit a doctor only when something feels wrong. Regular check-ups and health monitoring often get pushed aside because work and daily life take over. This week served as a gentle reminder that health doesn’t need to wait for a problem.
All these sessions and check-ups were organised right inside the office, making it easier for everyone of us to access. People could review their health numbers, ask questions, and address concerns they had been putting off.
Power Your Plate – Nutrition Session
The week began with a nutrition session titled “Power Your Plate” led by Ms. Sherene Robinson.
It highlighted balanced eating and the impact of food on energy, mood, and focus at work. Common myths around diet and lifestyle were discussed in a clear and relatable way. There was also a simple explanation of how hormones and daily habits influence the body.
After the session, our people had the chance to ask questions and even speak with Ms. Sherene one-on-one.
Eye and Dental Check-Up
The second day was set aside for eye and dental check-ups. These were basic preventive screenings. Along with the tests, a doctor was available to review the reports and give a general opinion on the numbers. It helped our people to understand if any follow-up might be needed.
Nancy Maria Roy, Product Marketer, says,
It was a great initiative to bring these services into the workplace. It made it much easier for us to actually take time for our health. The dental and eye check-up camp was well organised and convenient. The one-on-one nutrition session was practical and gave useful suggestions I can apply in my daily routine.
Know Your Numbers – Health Screening
Day three focused on detailed health screening, “Know Your Numbers – Check. Clarify. Care.”
The screening covered vital tests like blood pressure and pulse rate, along with blood sugar and oxygen levels. It also included tests such as HbA1c, lipid profile, thyroid and liver function, pulmonary function, and bone mineral density.
After the tests, our people had a chance to sit with the doctor to review their reports.
Nikil Srinivasan, Software Engineer, says,
Out of the five days, the ‘Know Your Numbers’ health screening stood out for me. It helped me understand where I currently stand health-wise. The tests were detailed, and the final consultation with the doctor made things clearer. I could see what was fine and what I need to improve.
Reboot, Refresh & Renew – Mental Well-Being
Midweek brought a session on mental well-being by Ms. Shri Lakshmi S., titled “Reboot, Refresh & Renew.”
The session spoke about emotions, stress management, work-life balance, and sleep challenges. The session also included light movement dance steps and some simple, quick relaxation exercises.
Physiotherapy Session
The final day focused on body care and postures. The physiotherapy session led by Dr. S. Murali (MPT, Ortho) covered posture, muscle strain, ergonomics, and simple techniques like pandiculation to ease stiffness from long hours of sitting. There was also a short live demo with a few of our team members, which made the session more practical and easier to follow.
Wellness Week: Useful Takeaways
People stepped in for sessions between work, compared reports with colleagues, shared small takeaways from the talks, and went back to their desks. This week was about better awareness – food habits, posture, stress, sleep, and understanding our health numbers.
