Friendship Day at Kovai.co

Categories: Company

Friendship Day fell on a Sunday this year. We celebrated it on Monday instead. Sometimes, the best reason to pause a workday is simply to appreciate the people who make it better.

On August 3 afternoon, the Swing Area on the 8th floor was a centre of activity. There were bowls of colourful beads, stacks of postcards, and colleagues stopping by throughout the evening.

For a little while, laptops stayed closed. People gathered around to make something by hand and let someone know they made your workday better.

Sometimes, that’s all it takes.

More Than Just Beads and Bracelets

If there was one thing everyone was searching for that afternoon, it wasn’t coffee, it was alphabet beads.

Tables quickly turned into tiny treasure hunts. Someone needed an “S.” Another was looking for an “R.” Across the table, people were happily negotiating colours, swapping letters, and helping each other finish bracelets.

And when the perfect bead wasn’t available, nobody gave up.

A heart bead found its place where a letter couldn’t. A “V” was turned upside down to become an “A.” New colour combinations and different braids appeared out of nowhere.

The bracelets weren’t perfect, and that was exactly what made them special. They just needed to reach the right person.

Vineta Christy Vinodkumar, our intern, says,

At Kovai.co, I got to celebrate friendships beyond being colleagues. The bracelets and handwritten cards made me feel valued and reminded how much we value each other. I’ll cherish those memories.

The Notes That Meant the Most

Not every message needed a bracelet.

Many chose a postcard instead. The postcards carried a touch of FRIENDS – the iconic sitcom, reimagined with familiar corners of our own office. It was a nostalgic twist that felt right at home.

Some notes were filled with gratitude. Others carried inside jokes that only two people would understand. A few simply said, “Thank you.”

Each card found its way to someone who had made an ordinary workday a little easier, brighter, or kinder.

Shruti Chandrasekar, recently joined Associate People & Culture Specialist, says,

Seeing something handmade, whether it was a friendship bracelet or a heartfelt postcard, made it feel much more personal. It was a beautiful reminder that it’s the people who make Kovai.co special.

Friendships Beyond the Desk

It was a small gesture, but one that reflected something bigger. Seeing bracelets made for colleagues’ children was a quiet reminder that some workplace friendships naturally become part of life beyond the office.

The Moments We’ll Remember

By the next morning, the beads were packed, and the tables were back to normal.

But the bracelets were still being worn. The postcards were still sitting on desks. And the smiles that came with them hadn’t gone anywhere.

Moments like these are a small part of what makes Kovai.co feel less like a workplace and more like a community.

Sabareeswaran Balasubramaniam, Software Engineer, says,

Sometimes, it’s the smallest gestures that stay with you the longest. These bracelets may not be perfect and won’t last forever. But the memories of sitting together, helping each other, laughing, and creating something will.

This is what our Friendship Day looked like!
